Geometric Carved Pot by Linda Tafoya-Sanchez

Geometric Carved Pot by Linda Tafoya-Sanchez

Santa Clara Pueblo artist Linda Tafoya-Sanchez (formerly Oyenque) follows in the footsteps of her father, Lee Tafoya, and grandmother, legendary potter Margaret Tafoya, creating intricately carved, beautifully polished pottery.

While living at San Juan Pueblo with her first husband in the late 1980s, Linda became one of the first Santa Clara potters to use a micaceous slip to complement the polished and matte surfaces of her pottery. She also further innovated her pottery by incorporating San Juan design elements and unique, contemporary forms. This beautifully shaped blackware pot combines Linda's Santa Clara and San Juan influences with a central micaceous band featuring deep geometric carving framed by highly polished upper and lower sections.
