Bowl with Solstice Design By Rainy Naha

Award-winning Hopi potter Rainy Naha, daughter of Helen (Featherwoman) Naha, creates innovative, contemporary designs. This beautifully coiled, thin-walled bowl features her classic solstice pattern. The white color is a white clay slip which is polished onto the surface of the clay. Her intricate, precise designs are all painted traditionally using natural clay slips for the various colors or bee-weed plant for the black. In the sections near the opening are the various phases of the moon. In the smaller panels below the moons are cloud, rain and traditional Hopi designs from both pottery and katchinas.

3 1/2" high, 5 3/4" diameter
