Jorge Lovato has been carving for about twenty years, continuing a family tradition. His first carvings were single animals that evolved through experimentation into groups or “herds” carved from one piece of wood.
This is an unusual way of carving influenced by asian and North American Indian art. The animals he carves are quire small, an entire “herd” of buffalo or a group of zebras may fit into the palm of your hand. Despite their small size, Jorge catches the movement and psychological qualities of the animals he carves.
