As seen in the Elegant Vessels: A century of southwest silver boxes book (Page 29)

This box is related to tobacco use. The bow-guard design, still evident in a few instances, appears now along with Sun Faces and Knife Wings, proclaiming their Native origins. Cigarette and march boxes, matchbook covers, and a large humidor would have met the needs of travelers making their way across the American Southwest.
