Traders would often compete with each other, encouraging Native artisans to create masterworks that could be judged at the yearly Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial. At the 1954 Ceremonial, 105 artists working with C. G. Wallace were awarded ribbons for their work in various categories. To show his appreciation, Wallace hosted a congratulatory dinner for the artists at the Kiva Café in Albuquerque. The oldest in attendance was centenarian Zuni potter Siutsa (Tsayutitsa), and the youngest was the fifteen-year-old Lambert Homer Jr., a Zuni artist who created the plaque depicting a Rainbow Man inlaid into a black-jet background set into the top of the uppermost box. The silverware on this box has been attributed to Navajo smith Roger Skeet Sr.
