In 1938, the Museum of Northern Arizona introduced a program to teach Hopi artists the silver overlay technique, in which they could reproduce their pottery designs. This allowed Hopi jewelers to break away from the earlier Navajo approach and designs. This box by Victor Coochwytewa, which features the corn plant and cloud design, used this process.
